Gyotaku Fish Painting

November 1, 2025 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
$79

Hundreds of years ago Japanese fishermen used to paint fish as a way to keep a record of their catch. This beautiful record-keeping practice led to Gyotaku Art, also known as Japanese fish printing, which uses paint and brushes to create a fish imprint on paper. Join us to learn about this exquisite and expressive art form through short lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience using a variety of Gyotaku fish replicas. Supplies provided include fish replicas, paper, brushes, and acrylic paint in variety of colors including metallic.

Optional: If you would like to print on fabric, bring a plain t-shirt, or similar.

Note: There will be a one-hour break in the middle of class.
