DESCRIPTION:Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish\, a practice which dates back to the mid-1800s. DESCRIPTION:NPS Member Jill Marks will be teaching an Octopus Gyotaku class at the Newport Visual Arts Center! \nLearn about the Japanese style of print making called Gyotaku and make cards using a real octopus specimen. This is a fun beginner print making class suitable for new and experienced students alike. If you have not tried Gyotaku yet you won’t want to miss it! In this class you will learn step by step how to apply ink to the octopus specimen and then transfer an image of it to your cards. This is a great class for people who have an interest in art but have always thought they couldn’t draw. No drawing or painting experience required! Come and have fun playing with colors and print making in this fun and addictive art form. \nAll class materials will be provided. Students should wear clothes that they may get ink on. If you can bring scrap papers to class for inking sheets that would be helpful! Deadline to register is October 16 \nCost is $100 \nRegistration is required.

DESCRIPTION:Learn basic techniques to make art using Yosemite’s fallen leaves\, and take home multiple frame-worthy prints and paintings from your day in the park. \nIn this hands-on art class\, you’ll combine two fun artistic techniques to celebrate early-summer scenery in Yosemite Valley. Artist Sue Fierston will kick off the class by teaching you to draw and paint Yosemite’s leaves in watercolor. After creating several leaf paintings on watercolor paper\, you’ll practice printing Sierra leaves using fabric ink and hand printing techniques. Create several designs using the colorful ink\, and take home multiple frame-worthy leaf prints and paintings from your day of art in the park. \n\nExperience level: All levels welcome; no experience required! Participants must be ages 12+ and all participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.\nWhat’s included: Four hours of art instruction and all art supplies needed for the duration of class!\n\nPlease note registration is only for a single day of class\, but you may sign up for multiple days of class if you wish.\nAdvanced registration required.\n\n\nLocation: Happy Isles Art and Nature Center (Shuttle Stop 16).
